Laminated locks have a long history and were one of the first padlocks to be produced. They recently lost popularity to brass padlocks due to price and also the problems faced with cheaper laminated products on the market. There are however many factors which make these ABUS locks highly superior to other padlocks on the market. We highlight these below:
We regard the new ABUS Eterna as one of the best locks we have. In 2010 ABUS developed a new Eterna treatment process which have given their laminated locks a 40 year lifespan in accelerated weather testing.
The image here shows the locks being subjected to a saline humidity atmosphere which will corrode all but the most weatherproof of padlocks.
The other important factor is that each and every steel plate of the padlock is individually treated whereas all other brands are manufactured and then treated with a standard galvanising process. This basically gives little or no real protection to the weather and especially salt water. During the tests above the ABUS locks came out almost identical with no corrosion marks. All others appeared like this image on the right and totally inoperable.
In our advice section we talk about the dilemma of the weatherproof / security issue. This basically means that all weather locks use a softer stainless steel metal and whilst hardened steel is stronger, it can rust. This Eterna laminated lock basically does both with a 100% hardened steel construction and weatherproofing to match.
Possibly the main reason other laminated padlocks have developed a bad name is the way rivets hold the pates together. The ABUS model compresses the rivets within the body allowing the padlock to retain its security even when the rivets are damaged or attacked from the outside.

Colour Coding:
These padlocks come with a removable blue band. These can be replaced with different colours that we sell separately here.
These are especially useful if you intent to use the locks as safety lock-off items for machinery or switch gear.

Engraving:
We can laser engrave on this model for orders in excess of 100 units. This is mostly used for industrial applications.
