About this product

Keyed Alike:
This means that when you buy two or more padlocks from the keyed alike range they will all be operated by the same key. Each padlock comes with two keys as standard.

The world leading Granit padlocks are manufactured by ABUS in Germany. They are the only high security padlocks in the world to be cataphoretically coated to ensure they are a fully weatherproof to a marine grade standard and suitable for prolonged used outdoors and in a saline environment. ABUS have assured that these padlocks will be resistant to corrosion for 40+ years.

The large 77mm version affords an insurance approved CEN Grade 5 whilst the 63mm reaches CEN 4. Both use an ABUS Plus cylinder which boasts 250,000 key different variations and keys that cannot be copied at a traditional locksmith without your unique 'code-card'.

Please note that when this padlock is unlocked it retains the key until it is relocked once again.

If required a small bolt can be removed from the side of the lock to enable the shackle to be removed completely. Often useful when fitting to shipping containers.

Insurance Grade:

These padlocks are recognised under a number of insurance and testing standards including:

The lock is BSEN 12320 / CEN rated to grade 4 on the smaller version and grade 5 on the larger. If you''re unfamilair with this system this please read this page first: https://www.padlocks.co.uk/advice/insurance-cen/.

Removable Shackle:

This padlock comes with the added benefit that the shackle can be removed from the body entirely. Out of the box the shackle is like any other padlock and retained inside the lock when in the open position. However, if you follow our tutorial you'll be able to convert the lock so that the shackle releases completely, allowing more room to maneuver the lock in tight spaces. Keys:

All our Granit padlocks are delivered with 2 keys each inclusive of the price, one of which is an LED powered version to help find the keyway in low-light conditions. If you require additional keys you can order them by clicking here

Technology:

The ABUS Plus Cylinder is a disc cylinder whereby a stack of different discs is rotated when the key is turned. How far the key turns depends on the indentations in the key. If the discs are not correctly sequenced, a pin blocks the rotation of the cylinder and with it the opening of the lock. We have more information on the ABUS Plus cylinder here.

Images:

Here are some good images showing freeze testing and also the breakdown of the cylinder. What is noticable is the lack of springs and moving parts. the mechanism is simple made from rotating disks, making it impossible to pick and highly resistant against weather and freezing.
